Corner questions

Ten things people ask us most, answered without the fluff. Can't see yours? Share a corner and we will look into it.

What counts as an awkward corner?

Any corner where standard furniture will not sit flush: inside corners, protruding outside corners, sloped under-stair space, and wardrobe or cupboard corners. See the corner types.

Can I fit corner storage without drilling?

Yes. Rotating trays, tension-pole shelves and adhesive hook strips all work without drilling. A corner ladder is free-standing too, though an anti-tip strap is wise.

How do I measure a corner that is not 90 degrees?

Measure the depth along each wall and the angle between them, then calculate the front edge with the law of cosines. Our calculator does it instantly.

Will adhesive hooks damage paint?

They can on poorly bonded or freshly painted walls. Use them on clean, cured, flat surfaces, respect the weight rating, and remove the strip slowly, parallel to the wall.

How much weight can a corner shelf hold?

It depends on the shelf, the fixings and the wall. Follow the manufacturer's rating, match the plugs to the wall type, and spread heavy items across the shelf. See the shelving guide.

Are lazy Susans worth it in kitchen cupboards?

Yes for most blind corners, as long as the tray can pass through the door opening. Measure that first. More in the kitchen guide.

What is best for under-stair space?

Wheeled pull-out drawers, because they bring the back of the space to you without altering the staircase. Keep escape routes clear. See the hallway guide.

Which materials survive bathroom corners?

304 or 316 stainless steel, anodised aluminium and rust-proof plastics. Seal any timber, and dry the corner after use. See the bathroom guide.

Do you sell products?

No. We are an independent guide and do not sell anything. Read about us.
